Further trial trenching, for Limerick Corporation, under the general licence for the City held by Ms C. O' Rahilly, concentrated on the recently demolished areas.
The site of Thom Core Castle, at the corner of Mungret St. and John's St. was extensively investigated but no remains of the castle were found. It is assumed that the deep 19th-century cellars have obliterated all trace of the building.
Several trenches were excavated further to the south, under and adjacent to 33 John's St. The frontage in this area was like the northern area, heavily disturbed by cellars, but archaeological deposits were encountered elsewhere in town and it was assumed that this was a backyard area. Further monitoring of this area is envisaged when redevelopment commences.
