A two week excavation took place commencing 15 January, 1990. The site, covering an area of 187 sq. m, was due for redevelopment by O'Malley Construction Company, who funded the excavation. It was the original location of the medieval 'Browne Doorway'.

Three trenches were excavated in the areas which would be affected by deep foundations. The site was very disturbed owing to previous buildings and bedrock was only just below the ground surface in most places and no deeper than 1.5m anywhere on the site.

Foundations were revealed in trenches 1 and 2 but these probably dated to the 18th and 19th centuries. A number of cut stones were uncovered within the trenches and scattered around the site at ground level. These are the only surviving evidence of late medieval activity on the site. The only finds were some sherds of 19th-century pottery.
