Two trenches were excavated across the site to ascertain whether stone or timber waterfronts or other structures may still survive. The overburden consisted of very loose building rubble and varied between 2m-3m in depth. A medieval dump layer was exposed beneath the overburden and varied in depth between 1m-1.5m. In the western trench a timber raft was exposed which had been laid oil the top of the medieval material to act as foundation for the walls of the post-medieval building. However, no large timber or stone structures were found in these trenches.
