A four week excavation of the ringfort at Lisnacaheragh, Garranes, Co. Cork, took place in May-June 1990. Two small trenches were opened in the interior of the site, one on the west side of the ringfort opposite the entrance and one on the south side. The results were interesting, with possible evidence for domestic habitation in Trench 2 which could have important implications for the reassessment of the site. Previously, the ringfort had been partially excavated in the 1930s by Prof. S.P. Ó Ríordáin. Other features uncovered indicate that there may be a link between Trench 2 and 'Site D', a trench opened during the course of Prof. Ó Ríordáin's excavations.
The excavation was funded, under the auspices of the National Committee for Archaeology of the Royal Irish Academy, by the Office of Public Works.
