A fourth season of excavation was undertaken at Curraghatoor for a nine-week period from June to August. The site was initially uncovered during the construction of the Cork-Dublin natural gas pipeline in 1982 when three huts of Late Bronze Age date were recorded. Further excavations at the site between 1987 and 1989 have shown the site to be more extensive than had been originally thought and the remains of at least six other structures have been uncovered. Work here in 1989 included a resistivity survey which indicated the possibility of further archaeological remains immediately to the west and south of areas currently under excavation. A series of radiocarbon dates for the site range from 3030 to 2840 BP.
