This work consisted of a watching brief in connection with the excavation, by machine, of a narrow pipe trench across the land to the west of Adare castle. The trench was located approx. 10m west of the Castle at the south end and 17m at the north end. It extended for 70m north - south from the bank of the River Maigue northwards to the boundary between the land owned by the OPW and that owned by Adare Manor Golf Club. The depth varied from 0.6m to 0.9m.
The only feature revealed was a stone wall which may be that shown on the 1st edition of the 0.S. 6" sheet 21 and which appears to have been part of a walled garden or orchard. The few finds recovered were all of relatively modern date.
