In October 1986 human remains were discovered in a ridge during testing for gravel deposits at Jordanstown, Co. Meath.208 A number of trial holes had been dug along the ridge with a mechanical excavator. Human remains were found in the excavated material but all had been disturbed by the time the driver noticed them. The discovery was reported to the Gardaí at Enfield, who informed the NMI. A site inspection was carried out by Mary Cahill. As nothing was observed in situ it was not possible to establish the disposition of the burials. As the testing for gravel proved to be negative, the pits were backfilled and no further excavation work at the site was proposed. The bones (1986:143) found on the surface were brought to the Museum.
