As part of continuing research into extensive upland field systems on the Garron Plateau, Co. Antrim, a number of sites have been investigated for potential pollen analysis and radiocarbon dating.
At the south end of Galboly Lower td, a derelict field wall was sectioned where it ran through a broad, peat-filled basin. The stone wall was traced through the peat for several metres by probing, and on excavation was found to have been constructed, then weathered and become derelict during a period of active peat formation. Pollen samples were taken and the peat surface on which the wall was built was dated to 2750± 75 BP (UB 2792). There were no finds. The excavation was funded by the Department of Archaeology, Queen's University, Belfast.
