Excavations in 1985 were concerned with the stripping of 3 metres of sand along the cliff at Ferriters Cove. An area approximately 18 metres across was cleared for excavation. However, excavation itself was limited to establishing that settlement survived at a distance away from the cliff edge and to the total excavation of areas adjacent to the cliff. At least two concentrations of activity have been identified. These centre on hearths, heaps of shells, scatters of burnt stone and numerous artefacts. So far, no traces of structures have been found. Ten metres from the main site, a small rescue excavation of a segment of cliff edge was carried out.
