In September 1981 human remains were discovered during bulldozing operations for the construction of a new school on the outskirts of Carlow town.44 The site was reported to the NMI by Mr Seán Ó Ciardhubháin of Kerry Island, Co. Kerry. According to the finders, approximately 30 extended burials were uncovered. These were completely disturbed by the time of Mary Cahill’s investigation, and no remains were in their original context.45 Investigation did, however, reveal traces of a possible ditch feature, 1.5m wide by 0.5m deep. A patch of charcoal measuring 0.67m across was also found. The human remains were not acquired. The site was located 1km north-west of St Kevin’s Abbey in Chapelstown townland.46
