The owner insisted on the removal of twenty-one small mounds encircling a ditch at the base of the degenerated passage-tomb mound. Excavation of one mound revealed an Iron Age cremation burial accompanied by around sixty pieces of metalwork, including a complete La Tene II/III style iron fibula. Further Iron Age material was found in topsoil over other, disturbed mounds, indicating an Iron Age cremation complex.
