Due to the submission of plans for a road which would run along the NE face of the site, the area was walked, aerial photographic and magnetometric surveys were carried out, and trial trenches were dug. While only derived porcellanite waste was retrieved, several further research trenches were opened.
There were deep outcrops of procellanite, 4.5m thick, which exhibited deliberate flaking and splitting, as well as a layer of cobbles sealed by peat 0.6-0.7m thick, and large quantities of rough-outs and waste.
