For this examination of Ireland’s first recognised ‘causewayed camp’, an area of 230sq.m was uncovered. The bill is surrounded by two concentric ditches, producing Lyles 1-till ware from their bottom fills, and a palisade trench apparently dating from the same period. Two internal areas of settlement were discovered, indicated by postholes, a hearth and pits containing charcoal and artefacts. Ten thousand sherds of pottery, several thousand flints and at least twenty whole or partial polished stone axes were retrieved, and soil samples were taken for radiocarbon dating and palaeobotanical analysis.
