A slightly irregular enclosure was selected for excavation. It was c.80m across and bounded a small penninsula of the shore of Lough-na-Trosk. The enclosure wall was stone-faced and earth-cored, 1m wide and stood up to 0.6m high. Inside were the remains of at least four huts, two of which were excavated and found to be of Early Christian or medieval date. They had been burnt down and were surrounded by high phosphate levels. Such levels were also found straddling the enclosure wall and, when explored, an extensive scatter of flint waste was located. Several sherds of everted rim ware lay against the wall.
