In February 1977 human remains were discovered during the excavation of building foundations at a drapery shop at 90 High Street, Kilkenny, in the townland of St Mary’s Parish. According to the Gardaí, who reported the find to the Museum, two skulls and some other bones were found during the excavation works. The site is adjacent to St Mary’s Church and was thought to be an extension of the graveyard133 attached to the church. The bones were sent to the local pathologist for examination and were not acquired by the NMI. As no further excavation was due to take place, the site was not investigated by NMI personnel.
