The main excavation took place in 1973 but a few supplementary trenches were opened in 1974 in order to check on the main dimensions of the buildings and to complete the plan of the remains so far located. There is little further to be added to the remarks in Excavations 1973, 5, except to say that the roadworks have now been completed, the garden wall has been demolished and the new road edge corresponds approximately with the east edge of the first test trenches. The surface of the road will be 2m approximately above the level on which the medieval walls rest and these will be undisturbed. The rest of the site to the E has been acquired by the Department of Finance with a view to future complete excavation and presentation of the remains of the E end of the church, and the E and S domestic ranges if sufficient survives.
