In 1971 and 1972 human remains were discovered in ‘Kesh caves’, at Cloonagh, Co. Sligo,246 and reported to the NMI by two members of the public who had been visiting the caves. The discovery made in 1971 was of a single left calcaneum (2010:90) possibly from an adult male. This was removed from a small pile of bones observed by Mr Karl Waldburg, who reported that the bones were located about 150 yards from the entrance to Cave O (Scharf et al. 1903). The 1972 discovery was made by Mr John Jobson, but no details of the location of the find-place within the cave system were provided. These remains were to be sent to the NMI but this does not appear to have happened.
