In March 1972 a human skull was discovered during quarrying operations in a gravel pit at Parkmore, near Birr, Co. Offaly.232 The information was obtained from Mr Michael Walsh of the Midland Tribune newspaper, who arranged to have the skull forwarded to the NMI. It was apparently found at a depth of 0.45m, and no further details were recorded.
