In April 1972 human remains were discovered during the digging of foundations for a house at Ratoath, Co. Meath.215 The remains were found at a depth of c. 0.9m during bulldozing for the foundation trenches. The bones were brought to the NMI by the landowner, Mr John Cahill. The site does not appear to have been visited but the remains were examined by Professor C.A. Erskine of Trinity College and found to represent the remains of one adult male. Stout and Stout (2009, 168) list a secular cemetery at Ratoath, but as the location of the burial found in 1972 was not recorded it is not possible to connect it with the cemetery site.
215 The exact location of the site was not recorded. SMR ME038-042——.
