In January 1972 the NMI received a report stating that a cist containing a cremation and a vessel had been discovered and destroyed over 50 years ago at Tobermurry, Co. Limerick.2 The site was reported by Peadar Ó Maolaoin, who had heard of the find at the time but had kept it quiet to discourage any more damage to the site. According to his account, the cist and vessel were smashed by the finder in search of gold. The sherds of the vessel were discarded by the finder.
