On 2 May 1970 The Kerryman newspaper reported the discovery of a long cist at Tobernamoodane, Lispole, Co Kerry.26 The short report stated that the grave was found by a farmer while ploughing on his farm, and that the grave measured ‘about six and a half feet in length and about two feet wide’. The grave was reported to the NMI by Seán Ó Nualláin of the Ordnance Survey, who agreed to investigate the burial on the Museum’s behalf. This report is therefore based on Ó Nualláin’s account. Apparently the grave had already been filled in and the field it was in had been sown. The landowner stated that the grave had been ransacked by some locals, but he thought that the bones had later been returned to the grave. The grave appears to have been a long cist with a single inhumation burial, but no other details were available. There do not appear to have been any finds associated with the bones. The site was not investigated by the National Museum.
