The first season’s preliminary excavations of the multivallate Hill Fort at Clogher revealed the possibility of a long period of occupation. The pottery varied from coarse ware of a type which may belong to the Early Iron-Age, to Sub-Roman imported pottery. One interesting find was a Roman toilet-implement. This later occupation may connect with the known Early Historical references to a Hill Fort in this area. Excavations also revealed a prehistoric hut-site under one of the banks.
