Investigations were carried out at sites in these townlands with the object of assessing the nature and extent of pre-bog stone field-fences which had been discovered in a survey conducted by Dr Herity and Mr Caulfield. An extensive pattern of fields averaging five acres in area was indicated at both sites. Wall height was normally about 1 metre. Pollen and soil analysis was also undertaken. A preliminary note on the results of a survey by questionnaire initiated some years ago will be published shortly in J.R.S.A.I. In the meantime a five-year plan of investigation on sites discovered in the West of Ireland is being conducted.
