In 1967 a ringfort and an early Church-site were excavated here. In 1969 research in the area continued with the excavation of a trivallate ringfort, which was one of the largest in the area. Finds were few, but the work discovered evidence for iron-working on the site, and also for the existence of an elaborately constructed gate series such as has been found in ringforts in Cork and Mayo.
