A small circular enclosure about 22 metres in diameter, called “Lisbeg” on the O.S. maps and locally known as “The Lisheen” or “The Fort”, was excavated in the outskirts of Galway City. No certain traces of structure or signs of habitation were recovered. Either continual cultivation had destroyed all vestiges of human activity or it never was a rath. The latter theory seems the more probable.
