In July 1965 human remains were discovered during the digging of a trench for an electrical cable at South Frederick Street in Dublin city centre.78 The trench was dug on the south side of the street, and measured 0.61m in maximum depth by 0.36m wide. The work was being carried out by ESB employees, who apparently found the remains at a depth of 0.45–0.6m below street level. The site was reported to Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda Station, who informed the Museum. Unfortunately the trench was backfilled almost immediately after the report was received, so it was not possible for Breandán Ó Ríordáin to view the remains. According to the watchman, the bones did not appear to comprise a complete skeleton.
