In June 1963 the NMI received a report that human remains had been discovered over a period of two weeks at the Bord na Móna power station near Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly, in the townland of Cloniffeen.222 According to the report, between sixteen and 24 skeletons were discovered, all aligned in the same direction (orientation not specified), approximately 0.46m below ground level. A piece of iron, possibly a knife, was allegedly found with the burials but was not acquired. The site manager, Mr Lee, was asked to rebury the remains locally, and the site was not investigated.
