In September 1961 human remains were discovered during the sinking of a well at Derryhiveny North, Co. Galway.104 The remains were discovered at the edge of an ecclesiastical enclosure at a depth of c. 0.6m below ground surface.105 According to the landowner, the remains appeared as if in a crouched position, but these were not examined in situ. The site was reported to the National Museum by the Gardaí, who visited the site. An investigation was not carried out by Museum personnel, but Professor Michael Duignan of University College Galway was asked to visit the site. It is not clear whether such a visit ever took place, as there is no report on file. Unfortunately no further information as to the disposition of the burial is known.
