In November 1960 human remains were discovered during the levelling of an old sandpit at Lawaus, near Ballindine, Co. Mayo.192 Two inhumation burials set c. 5m apart were discovered at a depth of c. 0.9m below ground level. The remains were disturbed considerably upon discovery but were reported to the Gardaí at Ballindine, who informed the NMI. The site was not investigated and the bones were reburied locally.
