In August 1956 human remains were discovered eroding out of a gravel ridge on the banks of the River Suir at Ballycarron bridge, Golden, Co. Tipperary.258 The site had been investigated first by GardaĆ, who reported the site to the NMI. A site investigation was carried out by Dr A.T. Lucas. The remains had been found at a depth of 0.4m below the sod and were in a very good state of preservation. An attempt had been made to expose the rest of the skeleton by opening a trench back from the edge of the pit, and as a result of this interference most of the bones had fallen down the section. There was no evidence of grave structure or associated artefacts. The burial was probably extended, and Lucas suggested that from the general appearance of the bones it was not prehistoric in date. The remains were reburied locally.
