In January 1956 human remains were discovered in a sandpit on a farm near Durrow, Co. Laois.154 Two human skeletons were apparently discovered at a depth of 0.6m, one of which was apparently in a crouched position. The site was reported to the NMI by Mr James Deegan, Abbeyleix, and by the Garda Síochána. According to Mr Deegan, one of the burials (that of a child) was buried in a prone position, while the other, that of a female, was crouched. No further details are recorded, and the site was not investigated by Museum personnel.
