In November 1952 human remains were discovered during quarrying at a sandpit at Treanmacmurtagh, near Keash, Ballymote, Co. Sligo.257 The remains were found at a depth of approximately 0.6m and fell out of the section of the pit upon discovery. The site was reported to the NMI by the Gardaí at Ballymote, who visited the site soon after the discovery. According to their report, the remains appeared to be those of a fairly large adult. At first the remains were thought to be those of an informer who was shot during the War of Independence but this was later refuted. The site was not investigated by NMI personnel and the remains were not acquired.
