In November 1950 human remains were discovered during the clearance of a building site at Springfield or Spittlefield townland, near Mullingar.302 Six human skulls and a number of other bones were found at a depth of c. 1.2m below ground level. No details are recorded as to the disposition of the remains, which were not acquired.
