In 1947 the National Museum received a report of burials discovered on a farm in the vicinity of Cloughprior Abbey, Co. Tipperary.270 The remains had apparently been discovered around 1924 by the father of the correspondent to the NMI, Mr Joseph Keane. The bones were found at a depth of 0.6–1.2m below ground level on the summit of a hill, close to a ringfort. The bodies were apparently placed haphazardly over each other and there was no specific orientation. According to Mr Keane, at least eight individuals were found but no associated artefacts or grave structures were noticed. Local tradition held that a battle was fought on this hill in Cromwellian times.
