In January 1946 human remains were discovered during construction work at John Street, Killaloe (td Shantraud), Co. Clare.53 According to the report, six or seven skulls were found along with human long bones during the digging of foundations for a house on the site of a demolished dwelling house, which is stated to have been at least 200 years old. The bones were damaged by the workmen in the course of excavation, but according to Sergeant McGinnis, who visited the site, some of the remains were very well preserved. The area was believed to have been part of the graveyard attached to St Flannan’s Cathedral. There was no evidence for stone or wooden structures, and no associated artefacts were found.
