In September 1942 human remains were discovered during quarrying operations in a sandpit at Knockboy, Co. Tipperary.267 The remains, comprising two skulls and a number of other bones, were found at a depth of approximately 1m. Bone was also visible protruding from the section of the sandpit. According to the finder, the bones visible in the section appeared to be a crouched articulated skeleton. No stone protection was visible in the area of the bones, and no associated artefacts were discovered. Although a visit to the site was apparently planned, this does not seem to have taken place and the remains were not acquired.
