In June 1940 human remains were discovered in the course of military excavations close to the Broadcasting Station at Moydrum in Athlone.299 The site was a gravel ridge, and the remains were found at a depth of 1.5m below ground level. No grave structure or associated artefacts were found in the vicinity of the remains and, as they had been disturbed upon discovery, it was not possible to ascertain their original disposition. The site was not visited but the remains (1940:70) were acquired by the Museum.
