In September 1939 human remains and some artefacts were discovered during excavation works at Humphrystown, Co. Wicklow.10 The works were being carried out by the ESB in advance of the flooding of the area for the hydroelectric scheme. A few fragments of pottery, a flint flake, iron slag, animal bone, charcoal and portions of cremated teeth (1939:231–236.1–2) were found in one of the trenches, but it was not possible to ascertain the disposition of the remains as they were removed from context before examination. The site was reported to the Museum by local schoolteacher Mr Michael O’Connor, Lacken, Blessington, and the remains were acquired by the Museum. A fragment of a quernstone was also discovered but this was not acquired.
