In December 1938 human remains were discovered during works carried out by the Land Commission at Griffinstown, near Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath.287 The remains, apparently representing approximately four individuals, were in a poor state of preservation, and their disposition was not noted. The burials appear to have been unprotected and no associated artefacts were found. The find was located c. 18m from a fort but the site is not known. The SMR records two ringforts and four earthworks, a church and a castle in this townland.288 A site investigation did not take place.
