In October 1938 human remains were exposed on the seashore at Tiraun, near Belmullet, Co. Mayo,195 when the sand was disturbed by strong winds. According to the Gardaí who reported the site to the NMI, the remains were disturbed and there was no trace of any associated artefacts or of accompanying stones. A local man, Mr Mícheál MacÉnrí, was asked to make a visit on behalf of the NMI. According to his report, the burial consisted of a single extended inhumation, which lay at a depth of 1.5m below ground level. The body lay in a supine position with the head to the south. At the recommendation of the Museum the remains were reburied locally.
