In November 1931 human remains were discovered during sand-digging on the grounds of Dromoland Castle, Co. Clare.52 The remains, an extended inhumation, were discovered at a depth of c. 1.5m below ground level. The skull was broken upon discovery, and the remains were then removed and placed in a box. The site was reported to the NMI by Superintendent Casey of Ennis, but it was not visited by Museum personnel. The human remains were not acquired.
