A programme of archaeological testing was undertaken in the townland of Crory, Co. Wexford to study the impact, if any, of a proposed solar farm on the archaeological and historical resource that may exist within the site. A geophysical survey (Licence No.: 24R0259) was previously undertaken of the site and informed the testing strategy. Portions of the site had previously been subject to testing, which was carried out by IAC between January and March 2025 (Licence No. 25E0020).

Test trenching commenced on 27 March and continued for two days. A total of 18 trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area which measured c. 680m linear metres in total. The trenches targeted geophysical anomalies and open green space in order to fully investigate the archaeological potential of the site. Testing revealed one area of archaeological significance, which has been designated as Archaeological Area 1. This comprises a single feature interpreted as a possible kiln. The feature corresponded with a single targeted circular geophysical anomaly. It is large and sub-oval in plan measuring 4.8m x 1.8m with a recorded depth of 0.6m and containing a minimum of five fills. These consist of clay-type fills and two charcoal lenses. No finds were recovered which might help to determine a definite chronology however a tentative prehistoric date is suggested.

Several non-archaeological features were also uncovered including a relict field boundary and evidence of root activity and burning with the latter two perhaps linked with the former woodland at this location visible on historic mapping annotated as ‘Crory Wood’. Additionally, numerous features containing sterile fills were recorded and interpreted as being non-archaeological and natural in origin.
