Archaeological monitoring was undertaken during conservation and rebuilding works to sections of the graveyard boundary wall at Kilmannan Church and Graveyard (RMP Nos. WX042-021001, WX042-021003, WX042-021004 and WX042-021005), Glebe townland, Co. Wexford (ITM 769707, 615354). The works were carried out under Ministerial Consent C001456, Activity No. E005851 and Works No. W000828 on behalf of Wexford County Council.
Monitoring was undertaken during the excavation of a foundation trench for the reconstruction of a collapsed section of the southern graveyard boundary wall and repairs to the south-eastern entrance return wall. The foundation trench measured approximately 0.60m in width and 0.60m in depth and was excavated through an existing stone path and accumulated topsoil. Natural orange-brown silty clay subsoil was encountered and the original wall was found to have been constructed directly on the natural subsoil.
A stone-built drain was identified at the eastern end of the collapsed section of wall and was retained in situ. No archaeological features, deposits, artefacts or human remains were identified during the course of the monitored works.
