As part of a planning condition issued by Meath County Council, archaeological monitoring of construction works took place at a site located at Drumone Quarry, Drumone, Co. Meath over the course of a day in early March 2026. During the backfilling and reinstatement of a historical sand and gravel quarry, works were carried out in the eastern portion of the site to install temporary cabins and realign the site entrance. Topsoil was a dark-mid brown silty clay with frequent roots. The only feature identified was two modern east-west pipes, identified in the eastern portion of the site. Natural was found at a depth of 0.8–1m and was a mid-light brown stony loam. No archaeology or topsoil finds were identified during monitoring. Further works will have no impact on archaeology in this part of the development site. No further mitigation is required, and works can continue as scheduled.
