Archaeological monitoring of ground works associated with a permitted development in Loan, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny, was undertaken between April 2025 and March 2026. Monitoring was undertaken by Barry Lacey, Niamh Barry, Jean GillPollock and Andrew Fairbrother of IAC Archaeology. Groundworks included topsoil stripping to facilitate a new access road and substation together with the excavation of numerous trenches to accommodate ducting, cables, services and other infrastructure. Post- medieval field boundaries and a single modern stone drain were the only features recorded during monitoring. These features are considered non-archaeological in nature. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during monitoring of groundworks on the site.
