2026:064 - Donadea, Kildare

Archaeological monitoring took place on 28 and 29 October 2025 of excavations for a proposed communications tower at Donadea, Co. Kildare. The Zone of Notification for KD009-038—-, a barrow – is located roughly 75m to the southeast of the tower location.

The topsoil stripping was completed by an excavator fitted with a 1.9m toothless ditching bucket. The stripped material was stockpiled on site and transported by a 3-tonne hydrostatic dumper. An area measuring roughly 16m x 16m was stripped to underlying natural undisturbed deposits to facilitate the tower base. The stratigraphy comprised a mid-brown topsoil and sod directly overlying bedrock at a depth of roughly 250mm throughout. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted either at the location of the tower base or the access track. No further archaeological mitigation is required.
