Planning permission was granted by Fingal Co Co in April 2021, for a two-storey
extension to the rear of Dubber House, Dubber Cross, Co. Dublin. The permission contained an archaeological condition due to the proximity of the site of Dubber Castle, DU014-008—- and the fact that Dubber House is a protected structure, RPS:0617 and RPS No: DU014-019—-.
As the buildings associated with the original extent of Dubber House would not be impacted upon and therefore the negligible likelihood of finding evidence of the re-use of castle stone, it was proposed to test the footprint of the extension, the new build and the percolation area, to investigate the possibility that any archaeological features associated with the nearby Dubber Castle might survive. The works took place on 27 May 2026.
The testing revealed that the ground across much of the site has already been significantly disturbed by the construction of the outbuildings and extensions to the original house, with nothing of archaeological interest uncovered and no evidence found of features associated with Dubber Castle.
