Licensed archaeological test-trenching was carried out at the site for a proposed development. Planning permission was sought for the construction of a slatted cubicle house with straw bedding area on an existing farm complex at Castlerichard townland, south of Killeagh Village, East Cork.
The proposed structure will be located immediately south-east of, and partially within, the Zone of Archaeological Potential of two Recorded Monuments, including a Castle (Inchicrenagh Tower House; CO077-021001) and a Country House (CO077-021002). Both are also Protected Structures (RPS 857-Tower House; RPS 59 – Country House), with Castlerichard House listed in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (Reg. 20907708). The development will not impact either monument.
A total of five test-trenches were excavated across the site, and no archaeological finds or features were found in any of the trenches.
