Archaeological monitoring took place at a site located at 4/5 Lower Drumbiggle Road, Ennis, Co. Clare. The site, which consists of two existing houses and their back gardens, is located within a dense residential area. While the site contained no monuments as listed in the Record of Monuments and Places (RMP) or Sites and Monuments Record (SMR), it is located within the Historic Town of Ennis (CL033-082—-).
Demolition works carried out on the existing structures, including the removal of floors within the current buildings at the site, and minor ground reduction in the associated gardens to facilitate the building extensions, were monitored. Ground reductions were carried out to a depth of 0.4m and 0.6m across the footprint of the new development. No natural or undisturbed subsoils were identified, and the formation level of the development is within the made ground at the site.
No archaeological features or deposits were identified during the course of the monitoring. Similarly, no artefacts were recovered.
