A test excavation was carried out on the site in March 2026. Seven trenches were excavated, with a total length of 176m.

Evidence of built-up ground and debris on the site was found in Trench 1, which was located along the road to the west of the site. The natural ground in this trench, and Trench 2 beside it, was found to be a stoney, grey boulder clay. Rooting activity was present in Trench 2 and Trench 3, which were on either side of a ditch that ran down through the centre of the site. Trenches 4 and 7 showed evidence of the removal of topsoil and the laying of a gravel surface on the natural surface for the current development on the site. Trenches 5 and 6 showed undisturbed ground along the eastern perimeter of the site.

The natural on the site varied from a compact, mid- to dark grey boulder clay on the western side of the site, while it was a compact, mottled mid-orangish/yellowish/greyish-brown boulder clay in the remainder of the site.

No archaeological features or artefacts were uncovered on the site during the test excavation.
